Stream 1: Sporting & Active communities grants
About this grant stream
Sporting and Active Communities Grants support sport, active recreation and physical activity projects that help people in TSRA Communities participate, connect and stay active.
TSRA Communities means communities across the Torres Strait and the Northern Peninsula Area (NPA) communities of Bamaga and Seisia.
This stream may support both travel and non-travel costs where the activity clearly increases local participation in sport, physical activity or active recreation within TSRA Communities.
Key objectives
The key objectives of the Sporting and Active Communities Grants are to:
Increase participation in sport, active recreation and physical activity
Reduce barriers that stop people from participating
Support local sporting clubs, community groups and volunteers
Encourage inclusive participation by children, young people, women, men, Elders, families and people with disability
Support local sporting events, active recreation programs and community competitions
Strengthen social connection, wellbeing and community pride through sport and physical activity
The total annual allocation for Sporting & Active Communities Grants is $200,000.
Funding is subject to available funds, continued TSRA funding approval, and the terms of the agreement between TSRA and GBK. Meeting eligibility requirements does not guarantee funding.
We anticipate there will be three types of grants:
Small activity grants - up to $5,000
Larger activity or event grants - up to $10,000
Regional participation activities - Above $10,000
Applicants can apply for a maximum amount of $50,000, though it is anticipated most grants will be less than $10,000.
GBK may approve partial funding, remove ineligible costs or request a revised budget before issuing a funding agreement.
